A Fulfilling Visit to Chambok

Chambok is a community-based tourism site where local villagers provide a venue for tourists who want to visit the area and be a part of a noble cause. Through the years, Apsara Tours has been bringing groups of people who have financial capabilities and golden hearts to get out of the warmth of their comfortable homes in order to lend their services and efforts in building facilities for the people in the community.

Last month, once again, the company brought groups of High School students from Singapore to the area. The students stayed in local houses that are converted into home-stays for visitors. They had an unforgettable night building campfire with the locals. They ate, danced and sang with them, which bridged the gap created by their culture and social status. They also had a day of doing hand labor building the walls of the single-room school in the community which is situated on top of a hill. Some built a concrete stairway going to the top to make climbing up the hill to the school an easier task especially for small children who strive to learn believing that education is their way to a brighter and better future.

When asked about their experience, the Singaporean students said with pride that they have learned a lot from the exposure, and that they are happy having been able to experience what an ordinary man's day is. They are also filled with joy for having shared what they have to less-fortunate children in the area.

They ended their visit with a ceremony where they expressed thanks to the local teachers after giving out hygiene kits, clothes, school materials and school supplies. They then took a 3-km trek to the 40-meter high Chambok waterfall.
