Cambodia Coastline: Member of the Club of the World's Most Beautiful Bays

Cambodia's coastline has recently been officially recognized as a member of the Club of the World's Most Beautiful Bays, after a proposal made last year by the Ministry of Tourism. This good news was brought back by Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, after attending the 7th World Congress held in Sine Saloum, Republic of Senegal, Western Africa on May 22-26, 2011.

The 450-km coastal area of Cambodia which includes Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, Kampot and Kep, is now one of the 33 bay members of the club. These members are from 27 different countries all over the world.

The recognition has enticed great optimism that the country's well-preserved and clean beaches will draw more tourists, as well as investors. The government is hoping that this will further boost the local economy and alleviate the residents' financial situation while promoting “sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs.”
