Latest Update About Flood in Cambodia

Cambodia is still faced with the adversities brought about by floods in several provinces. Unfortunately, rain still keeps pouring everyday, which prevents the water level from subsiding. The government is implementing every possible way to help those families affected by the flood, as well as preventing further damages and casualties through evacuation, rescue and aid.

As of Monday, October 10, 2011, Siem Reap is flooded again due to heavy rains over the weekend. The temples in the Angkor Archeological park are not affected as of the moment so temple tours are still ongoing as usual. Some hotels are affected with the rising of the water level but no major untoward incidents have been recorded. Chong Kneas floating village is closed to the public at present, but we are offering an alternative floating village for this itinerary.

The country's capital, Phnom Penh, is in good shape. There have been isolated cases of rising water on the streets whenever heavy rains come but they subside in a matter of minutes afterwards. Residents and tourists are doing their usual routines without any interruption. We just advice visitors to be ready with rain gears and wear your rain shoes. All tourists areas are open and are ready to accept visitors all day long. Water level in the Mekong River is remarkably high and somehow gives the river an extraordinary look, with the bottom hull of the boats treading the waters visible to by-standers standing across the Sisowath Quay.

On the other hand, the road to Sambor Prei Kuk in Kampong Thom Province is quite a challenge. 25 to 35-seater buses can hardly go through because some parts of the road were damaged by the flood. A detour route is being used right now to solve this problem. Apparently, this alternative road offers a faster way of getting to the temple.

Although there have been minor inconveniences and alterations regarding tours and destinations, everything is still going on as usual. Rest assured that we at Apsara Tours are making sure that your visit to Cambodia will still be as memorable as ever, may it be wet or dry. We are doing our best to ensure your safety and comfort.

We will keep you posted about the latest development regarding this situation.
