Kep and Sihanoukville: Beach Destinations in Cambodia

Having been officially declared as a member of the Club of the World's Most Beautiful Bays, Kep and Sihanoukville, Cambodia are definitely one of the must-go destinations in the kingdom.

Kep, which literally means "Saddle of the Horse", is a coastal tourist destination southwest of Phnom Penh. It boasts of its natural mountains adorned with tropical forests, mangroves and exotic islands that are basically untouched and unharmed by the ever-growing industrialization of Cambodia. The city sits on a 1000-meter long coast. It is famous for its delicious, fresh seafood. People often sit along the seawall and feast on a picnic lunch consisting of fishes and crustaceans, with the gentle hum of the sea breeze all around.
On the other hand, Sihanoukville, which is the prime beach destination of Cambodia, got its name in honor of King Norodom Sihanouk. It is of French origin, which literally means "The City of Sihanouk". With its crystal clear, blue waters tossing and kissing its long stretch of white-sand shores, Sihanoukville, also known as Kampong Som, is a perfect place for a refreshing tropical beach getaway after having been impressed by the majesty of Siem Reap and the bustling city life of Phnom Penh. This a strategic jump-off place for a diving trip to see the coral-encrusted rocky reefs surrounding the islands just off the shore. It boasts of the vastness and diversity of its marine life, probably one of the bests you will ever see. It is also a perfect place for snorkeling, sailing, fishing and water sports opportunities that would definitely give you a rush! You can also prefer to just lay back enjoy getting a sun-tan, and then maybe opt for a nice seafood dinner under the Cambodian sky. After all, a nice beach jaunt always completes a dream vacation!
